Meaningless Monday

Is it the start of a new week? Is it the end of the weekend?
Is it anything at all?

My cauliflower and lettuce are liking the increased
attention. Wish I could go out for more plants but maybe I will order seeds on
line and see how I do. I’ve got my grass weeded, aerated, reseeded and
top-dressed. Hope it recovers well. I mean, the weeding will continue but the
rest is done.
Most of the time I spend a certain portion of my day
regretting that I have so many things that require maintenance and vigilance. I
wonder, if I get fully caught up and organized, could I stay there instead of
always running behind everything? How awesome would that be?
Anyway, don’t worry, I’m not there yet. I have a long list
of things to do around here, still.
I watched Iron Jawed Angels on Netflix last night.
Pretty good movie. Really good if you rate it by how furious it made me. I have
tried, once again, to get back into the newer Star Treks. I mean, I was a big
fan when I was a kid. But all the new ones, they just feel the same. I can
watch one or two, then I want to watch (or listen to) something more engaging.
I’ve discovered two short story authors I enjoy. I don’t
like everything they write but I like a good percentage – and I’ve never been
much of a fan of short stories. But Ken Liu came to my attention via my creative
writing class study of “The Paper Menagerie,” which is stunning. So, I’ve
listened to some of his other stories now in a short story anthology audiobook
from the library. I loved “Mermaid Fever” by Steven Millhauser. I have his
anthology on hold at the library, so haven’t read anything else yet, but
reading the descriptions of his style of story after reading the one has me
really looking forward to it. Mermaid Fever is found easily enough on line and it’s
quite enjoyable.
Rhiannon bought a bunch of grapes when she was here. I try
not to eat very many sweets so I’ll never finish them. I don’t think I can
freeze them, so I think I’ll see if I can make raisins. Why not?
In other fascinating food news, almond milk gets weirdly curdled
when you freeze it. I wish I could get into Costco and get a box of the shelf
almond milk. Or if I could find out if you really must refrigerate the kind you
buy that are refrigerated already. But I’ve been tossing them in the freezer, and
it’s fine if you ignore what it looks like in your coffee. Sigh.
